WINEHAVEN WINS TWO GOLD MEDALS IN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION!
Winehaven Winery, of Chisago City, won two gold medals at the 8th annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition in New York, April 4th, 2008. The competition included nearly 500 wineries from 39 states and over 14 different countries.
WineHavens 2006 Marechal Foch received a rare double-gold medal, an honor reserved for wines earning unanimous top scores by a panel of the worlds most elite international wine judges. The locally grown red wine is one of WineHavens most consistent award winners. However, this is the first time it has won a double-gold medal internationally.
WineHavens Deer Garden Red also won a gold medal. This semi-sweet red wine is made from an exclusive blend of grapes grown in WineHavens Deer Garden Vineyard, along the sloping shores of Lake Ellen. A unique microclimate allows the grapes in Deer Garden to become sweeter than the grapes in WineHavens other vineyards. Deer Garden Red is now the first WineHaven selection to win a gold medal three consecutive years in a row.
Competition Chairman David Male told WineHaven, You had some of the best wine we have ever received competing with your entry, and we congratulate you on your success! Nine panels of five internationally accredited wine judges from North America, Argentina, Australia, England, Germany and France judged over 2350 wines over a two-day period.
News of WineHaven's "gold rush" is quickly spreading among international wine writers. Winehavens Marechal Foch will be featured as one of the competitions best wines in an upcoming edition of Wine Spectator magazine. USA Today called WineHaven a "notable producer," and WineHaven's popular Honeywine was featured as a "top pick" by wine writer Andrea Immer.
